{script_extra} Operation Green Light - About

Got Community?

The ETS Sponsorship Program is being used by transitioning servicemembers from all the Services and is available in the 50 States, Puerto Rico, Guam and all other U.S. Territories. The ETS Sponsorship model aligns federal, state and local resources and agencies around a shared understanding of the unique circumstances of each transitioning service member. This bridges the ‘deadly gap’ by engaging early, teaming Veterans with trained sponsors, helping set realistic expectations, and facilitating access to all the resources and opportunities our Veterans have earned through their service to the nation. Priorites for the Program are:

  • Empowering States and Counties with the tools to gain and maintain a connection to transitioning servcemembers
  • Working with local government to recruit Sponsors for Servicemembers that have selected specfic destinations
  • Train and support Community Integration Coordinators (CIC) that administer servicemember-sponsor pairs locally
  • Recruit former members and spouses of specific military units that can provide informed transition experience

County Veteran Service Officers and Sponsors help improve transition outcomes

"Green Light Day" is known differently in each of the Services. In the Army, your ETS or Expiration – Term of Service is the date a soldier is released from active duty service. EAS or End of Active Service is the conclusion of the period of active duty commitment for a member of the Marine Corps, the Air Force, and the Space Force. The equivalent term used by the Navy, and Coast Guard is EAOS or End of Active Obligated Service.

In an effort to organize military transition activities in a more coordinated and cohesive manner, the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command or TRADOC and the US Army Soldier for Life Directorate have begun a pilot program with the ETS Sponsorship Program that engages Soldiers through Unit Transition Coordinators 24 months before the last day of service. The Soldier for Life Directorate intends to expand the initiative from those currently serving to those that have completed their service.
